Homeowners have found preparing their homes for sale in the Des Moines area easier with the help of a cleaning checklist. A clean, well organized home shows well and can reduce the number of days the house is on the market.
Kitchen and Dining Room:
Interior of all appliances
Exterior of all appliances
Hood and exhaust fan
Walls, ceilings, and doorways
- use a degreaser where necessary
- consider painting
Flooring and baseboards
Interior of all cupboards
- reduce clutter
- replace shelf paper where necessary
Exterior of all cupboards
- wash according to surface material
- degrease and wax or protect with recommended product
Sink
Countertops
Windows, mirrors, picture frames
Dust shutters, blinds, other window coverings
Wash curtains
Replace burnt out light bulbs
Clean light switches (carefully!)
Common Spaces – Living Room, Family Room, Den and Hallways:
Walls, ceilings, and doorways
- remove cobwebs
- consider painting where necessary
Flooring and baseboards
- vacuum carpet
- shampoo carpet
- polish or wax hard surface flooring according to manufacturer
Curtains and draperies
Soft items such as pillows
Windows, mirrors, picture frames
Dust shutters, blinds, other window coverings
Wash curtains
Replace burnt out light bulbs
Clean light switches (carefully!)
Dust and polish wood trim
Clean furniture with appropriate solutions
- polish for wood surfaces
- polish for stone surfaces
- window cleaner for glass surfaces
Closets:
Put all un-necessary items in storage or donate

- remove items that hold dampness in

Change system filters as recommended by manufacturer
